Fuerteventura - The Island
The island of Fuerteventura is only 62 miles from the Moroccan
coast, and is one of the most popular holiday destinations of the Canary
Islands. It's also
first in line when the winds blow in from the Sahara, carrying its most valuable commodity, sand, which forms the great beaches on the islands. The sand is fine
and white, and covers most of the shore. Like its sister islands, it's of
volcanic origin, so you have all the elements: beaches, dunes and volcanoes.
Fuerteventura is the ideal
place for holidays, combining a restful break, with nature, cultural traditions
and water sports. It has a superb climate making it a great holiday
destination anytime of the year.
The beauty of Fuerteventura is complemented by the neighboring islet of Lobos,
which is a boat ride from the pure white beaches of Corralejo in the North.

The Corralejo Dunes Natural Park is located in the north. There are wide areas of dunes and white beaches of Jable sand, forming a nice contrast with the turquoise blue of the sky and the clear water of the sea. This town of Corralejo hosting narrow streets and a large pedestrian zone makes a good day out to shop or relax at the many bars and restaurants. There is now also a Water Park in Corralejo which is another great day out for the family.
Corralejo Beach and Sand Dunes
Very near to the East of Corralejo, is the Lobos Island, a small island with a population of one - the lighthouse keeper! If you like diving don't miss this place, it's one of the best spots in the Canaries.
El Cotillo is just about 20 minutes drive from Corralejo. It is a paradise for those wanting a different holiday and perfect for those wanting to pursue outdoor activities. El Cotillo has two harbors, has stunning sea views, surfing beaches to the South and fantastic bathing beaches in the Cotillo lagoons just to the North.
The tourist area is Jandía on the southern tip. Get absolutely lost from
humanity; go to the beaches in Sotavento, Barlovento, Cofete... and just
disappear! ...they're huge, white, quiet, you'll see nobody for kilometers.
You can also visit the Oasis Park in La Lajita surrounded by it's lush tropical gardens and housing a wide variety of birds, reptiles, primates, parrots and crocodiles.
Oasis Park
If you get tired of just going to the beach, visit Antigua, Tuineje and Betancuria, where you'll find the past remains of the English and Berber pirate raids - towers, fortresses, castles. Another great place to visit is the Volcanoes such as Tindaya.
